Main purpose of the job

This position is the Director of Juvenile Forensic Services within the Post-Acute Care Unit Division. The Director of Juvenile Forensic Services is responsible for coordinating and supervising behavioral health services, evaluations, and court-ordered collection services for youth involved in the juvenile court system and monitoring the Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) committed youth court through court appearances and, if necessary, written reports. This position is also involved in broad interagency collaborations and partnerships including but not limited to the Judiciary, Department of Juvenile Services, and Department of Human Services. This position is supervised by Pin No. 021958, Special Programs Coordinator for Health Services IV – Mental Health. Additionally, this position will provide training, consultation, and supervision to MDH/BHA contract child psychologists and psychiatrists as needed; Collect necessary data and participate in relevant research and evaluation functions. This position requires excellent problem-solving abilities, superior written and verbal communication skills, and strong negotiation ability.

Minimum qualifications

education: Defined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners for Psychologists under licensing requirements for psychologists.

expertiseTwo years of experience in providing psychological services or participating in psychological research after obtaining a psychologist’s license.

Note: Candidates may substitute military service experience for the United States Armed Forces as a commissioned officer in the clinical psychology classifications or psychology specialty codes in the field of psychology work on an annual basis for the required experience.

Required or preferred qualifications

The desired candidate must possess the following:

  • Experience as a collaborative leader (i.e. encouraging open communication, conducting brainstorming sessions, mentoring, and leading by example).
  • – Experience giving testimony in court in adult and juvenile cases.

Licenses, registrations and certificates

1. Candidates for this classification must be licensed as psychologists by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to any position. Applicants who do not have a Maryland license may apply before receiving the required license, but the application will be classified as pending by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Testing Unit. When licensed, submit a copy of the license to MDH to remove the pending status from the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned tasks that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned to these duties will be required to possess a valid Maryland Vehicle Operator’s License.

The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training, and experience as they relate to the job requirements.
