Faculty position (open rank) in Artificial Intelligence/Applied Artificial Intelligence Humanities and social sciences Effective beginning spring 2026 (or until filled).
Position summary
KIMEP University invites applications for Faculty position. The position is a common appointment for Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics and College of Humanities and Education.
The position is a three-year, full-time academic appointment commencing on 15 August 2026 with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities include teaching, scholarly activities, and service. The new college will assist in the undergraduate programs in Artificial Intelligence and Applied Artificial Intelligence (minors) and in the General Education program (required introductory courses).
We are looking for talented teachers and innovative researchers in the field of AI/Computational Linguistics who can teach some or all of the following undergraduate courses: Artificial Intelligence, Applied Artificial Intelligence for the Humanities and Social Sciences, Digital Fundamentals and Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, Language Logic, Textual Data Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, etc.
We are looking for an innovative faculty member to teach and develop courses in applied artificial intelligence (AI) and facilitate KIMEP’s strategic initiative to integrate AI tools and methods into business, economics, social sciences, education, and humanities. The selected candidate will possess subject knowledge as well as the ability to work across disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in applied AI (e.g., machine learning, business AI, AI in education, data analytics, and related fields).
- Collaborate with other faculties (Business Administration, Social Sciences, Education, Humanities) to integrate AI concepts into their curricula.
- Develop and supervise interdisciplinary projects focusing on artificial intelligence, case studies and student research.
- Conduct applied research in the field of artificial intelligence, with a focus on real-world applications.
- Contribute to the design of new AI-related programs, minors and degrees aligned with KIMEP’s strategic vision.
- Participate in curriculum development and outreach activities (AI boot camps, workshops and hackathons).
- Support faculty development initiatives by helping to train non-computer science faculty to use AI tools in their disciplines.
Minimum qualifications
Experience is required in the following areas: Artificial intelligence, computer science, computational linguistics, natural language processing, machine learning or related field. Demonstrate teaching excellence in AI-related courses at the university level. Strong publication record or evidence of applied research in AI. Ability to collaborate across disciplines and integrate AI concepts into non-technical areas.

- Previous research publications or clear evidence of research potential;

- At least two years of teaching experience at prestigious universities.
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines and integrate AI concepts into non-technical areas.

For all teachers experience in course design and teaching methods is highly desirable. Knowledge of local languages, Kazakh and Russian, is welcome.
Persons who meet the qualifications for the position will be considered ABD and will include in their application materials a letter from the thesis chair confirming the defense date prior to the start date of the position.

compensation
Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. After-tax compensation compares favorably with net salaries in Western countries.
Limited on-campus housing is available for rent, or alternatively, assistance in finding off-campus housing is available. In addition to salary, the benefits package includes basic healthcare insurance, tuition fee reduction for KIMEP courses, and relocation allowance support. New faculty members are provided with a reduced teaching schedule during their first semester. Paid summer teaching is usually available.
The salary will be subject to tax deduction (generally 10% personal income tax) as required by Kazakh law.
