Clinical Tutor in Patient Centered Care on the Direct Entry Medicine (0.5FTE) program at the University of Galway

Applications are invited for an appointment Clinical Instructor in Patient Centered Care On the Direct Entry Medicine programme, part-time (0.5FTE), permanent positionat the School of Medicine, University of Galway.

This post is open to applications from medically qualified doctors with experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team in the Irish healthcare system, who have excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills and have a proven track record of teaching medical students and/or supervising clinical placements to join the Medical Education specialty at an exciting time when healthcare education and the health professions are evolving and changing.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with peers who are clinical educators in patient centered care, from health and social care professionals or nursing backgrounds.

The new appointment will ensure the ability to develop and deliver new content related to the School of Medicine’s revised Direct Entry program with a particular focus on the patient in the healthcare system and professional practice.

The post holder will sit in the Department of Medical Education (DME). The Medical Education (DME) major is one of 14 academic majors in the School of Medicine. It includes staff with specialized interests in medical education, who come from a variety of clinical and non-clinical backgrounds.

Under the leadership of Professor Rosemary Geoghegan, Dubai Medical College staff contribute to and support the undergraduate medicine program in the areas of curriculum development, quality assurance, faculty training in teaching and assessment methodologies, clinical science and practice facilitation, student research, and leadership (unit and programme). Medicine has been taught at the University of Galway for 175 years, and the School of Medicine has a long tradition of clinical education.

In addition, DME offers postgraduate programmes, including Postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Clinical Education for Health Professions. Staff contribute to the delivery of these programmes, including supervising Masters students undertaking research in health professions education. DME is building its doctoral and postdoctoral research capacity. DME staff have a wide range of research interests in health professions education.

Salary: €82,195 to €100,597 pro rata per annum (applies to new arrivals as of January 2011)
