a description:
The Department of Arts, Literatures and Language at the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi (UQAC) is seeking a qualified candidate to work in the English as a Second Language Teaching and Master’s Programs in Linguistics.
At university level, the candidate is expected to:
– Teaching ESL courses such as reading comprehension, written production, and grammar.
– Teaching courses related to Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) methodology and other related courses;
– Supervising TESL training in schools (primary and secondary) and contributing to the evaluation of trainees.
– Contribute to the organization of the Baccalaureate in Second Language Learning (BEALS) sector (participate in the administration of the BEALS admission test and the language tests required by MEES);
– Assist in organizing the SPEAQ conference every two years on campus.
At graduate level, the candidate can:
– Providing seminars at the graduate level, especially in applied linguistics, according to the needs of the program and the candidate’s experience, and supervising students in the completion of their research projects.
In the search, the candidate will be asked to:
– Conduct research and collaborate (particularly with the Language and Communication Sciences Teaching Unit faculty team) and maintain an active research program in their areas of expertise.
Within the programs for teaching English as a second language:
– Participate effectively in managing and developing programs in the sector.
– Providing services to the university and the regional community in their areas of expertise.
requirements:
– Ph.D. in Teaching English as a Second Language or Applied Linguistics (with a specialization in Second Language Teaching);
– To have appropriate experience in teaching English as a second language.
– Must have knowledge of the English as a Second Language (ESL) education system in Quebec/North America.
– Proficiency in the English language is equivalent to proficiency in the English language.
– A working knowledge of the French language (spoken and written), or, if not, a demonstrated willingness to engage in the process of learning the French language, since teaching (at postgraduate level) and activities of academic life at UQAC are conducted in French (language policy).
Origins:
– Experience teaching English as a second language at the primary and/or secondary levels.
– Demonstrate research competence by including relevant publications and presentations;
– Experience and demonstrated ability to engage in community service.
– Interest in teaching one or more of the following courses:
7ENL233 Teaching English as a Second Language Based on Literature
7ENL233 Classroom Management for Second Language Teaching
7ENL234 Differentiated Instruction and Assessment in the Second Language Classroom
7ENL342 Teaching outside the Quebec system
– You studied a second or foreign language.
