Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Law) at Manchester Metropolitan University

Manchester Metropolitan University School of Law recruits and offers fantastic opportunities to excellent scholars who are committed to making a difference to our students and the wider community through excellent, life-transforming education and high-quality research. We are in a wonderful, cosmopolitan city and a warm, supportive and inclusive law school community. We were delighted to be awarded ‘Law School of the Year’ in the Educate North Awards 2025 and to be part of the Times/Sunday Times ‘Modern of the Year’ 2025 award.

For this specific round of appointments, we will be undertaking appointments aligned with the Teaching and Pedagogy/Practice pathway, including at Senior Lecturer level.

We have a number of priority teaching areas – particularly in the areas of company, commercial, property or criminal law. We would like to see applicants passionate about teaching in these areas and playing a role in leading their development within the school. Each excellent learning and teaching appointment is expected to offer, at a minimum, one of the core UG modules and optional modules at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.

Applicants, with broader experience and understanding in digital legal education, will also be in the field of legal education and sustainability, and will also be welcomed, to build on the School’s leadership in this area.

For this post, ideal candidates will be individuals who have experience of delivering legal education in HE contexts, and/or are able to bring their legal practice experience into the classroom to further enhance our contextual approach to legal education. At Senior Lecturer level, we expect Fellows to have some experience of teaching leadership, with an interest in further developing their profile in this area.

It is important for cutting-edge experience of recent developments in legal education (and the wider sector) including procedures to address differential outcomes or award gaps between student groups.

This track will provide successful candidates with the opportunity to be supported in working with internationally recognized scholars in legal pedagogy and colleagues who draw on distinguished legal practice experience.

We are proud of our diverse student community and the differences their experiences bring to the school, vocational, public and third-party sectors after successful graduation. We are keen to ensure that our staff pool is as representative as possible, and in doing so welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of background, belief or identity. We recognize the benefits a diverse organization can offer and particularly encourage applications from groups that are underrepresented in the university workforce.

To apply, please submit your CV and cover letter via our application portal. For informal inquiries, please contact Andrew Francis (Dean of Manchester Law School) Andrew.francis@mmu.ac.uk.

Manchester Metropolitan University promotes an inclusive culture of belonging that promotes equity and celebrates diversity. Our commitment to inclusion includes mentoring programs, accessibility resources, and professional development opportunities to empower and support underrepresented groups.

Manchester Met is a Disability Confident Leader and, under this scheme, aims to offer an interview to disabled people who apply for the role and meet the essential criteria as set out in the job description for this vacancy.
