About Auburn University
As a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant university with a Carnegie “R1” designation, Auburn University maintains high standards for innovative, externally funded, translational research.
Auburn, AL is a historic college town and one of Alabama’s fastest-growing metropolitan areas with increasingly diverse cultural and recreational opportunities. Due to its proximity to Birmingham, Alabama, Atlanta, Georgia, and the Gulf Coast, Auburn is an attractive place to live.
About the graphic design program
Housed within the School of Industrial and Graphic Design (SIGD) in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction (CADC), the Graphic Design Program (GDES) (http://cadc.auburn.edu/graphicdesign) at Auburn University prepares students to practice visual communication in a competitive, global environment. Auburn University’s nationally recognized Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design program is NASAD accredited, and the curriculum emphasizes a structured approach to design that enables students to become versatile designers, art managers, and economically viable professionals.
GDES students receive hands-on instruction in a professional studio environment that fosters a strong sense of community among students and faculty. Students build a foundation in drawing, 2D and 3D design, and printing in lower-level coursework. Core skills are then applied and expanded in upper-level coursework experiences that include interaction design, user experience (UI/UX) design, motion graphics, brand identity systems, leaflet design, packaging, illustration, and image making.
The GDES program introduces students to the professional design community by hosting exhibitions, seminars, and guest lectures by industry leaders. The internship program provides students with real-world experience and networking opportunities.
