A woman lies about the real reason she missed her sister’s wedding
Need to know
- A woman missed her sister’s wedding because it was held on the same day as an out-of-state job interview
- Instead of telling the bride the truth, the woman lied and said she had been diagnosed with Covid-19 the day before the wedding.
- The majority of Redditors argued that the bride’s sister should have been honest, and not ditched a “once in a lifetime family wedding” for the sake of a job interview.
A woman blamed illness for missing her sister’s wedding over the weekend, but the truth was a different story.
In a mail In the “Am I A——” forum on Reddit, the bride’s sister asked users on the popular platform whether or not she was wrong to lie about why she missed the wedding. The day before the party, the woman claimed to be sick with COVID-19 when in fact she was healthy and preparing for an out-of-state job interview.
“On her wedding day, I had a high-profile job interview in another state, and when I asked if I could reschedule, they unfortunately said they couldn’t, and I would lose out if I couldn’t do it,” the woman explained. “I know it may seem crazy to miss someone’s wedding, but this was a huge career opportunity for me and it will change my life.”

The job seeker decided to prioritize her big interview over her sister’s special day because she and her sister “aren’t close.” The woman, 24, and the bride, 36, are 12 years apart. They didn’t speak much of the time while the poster was in high school and the bride was living her adult life, reconnecting only over a few long phone calls this summer.
Instead of telling the bride the truth, the advertiser decided to lie because she did not want to “ruin” her chance of getting a job. She also didn’t want to risk the bride breaking the news to other wedding attendees who might ask where she was.
“I know it sounds silly, but I didn’t want any potential negativity before a big event for me,” she said.
However, the woman revealed the job interview to her aunt.
“My aunt said she would keep it to herself, but I would have to give my sister a brief explanation without providing any details,” she wrote. “But I didn’t.”
Although the bride’s sister knew it was her “mistake”, she told the bride “the day before that she had a fever and was diagnosed with Covid.” The bride “was upset but understanding.”
The poster’s aunt told her she was a “bad person and a liar.”
The bride’s sister said: “On the one hand, I understand that it is wrong to lie, of course, but on the other hand, this is my business in the end and it is not wrong to tell a harmless (in my opinion) lie to save myself from a lot of questions from people I am not close to.”
Fellow Reddit users asked the publisher whether or not it has been set, but there is no answer yet.

A few Redditors said that if the woman got the job, it might have been worth skipping the wedding. However, the majority of users said that it is not acceptable to miss such a big life event for a job interview. They added that it was “a lie” for her to lie, and put the aunt in an “awkward position where she now has to lie too”.
One notable comment read: “It was absolutely not worth skipping a once in a lifetime family wedding.” “I can’t imagine missing a family member’s wedding for anything.”
Commenters also criticized the potential employer for not rescheduling the interview.
“I can’t imagine that a potential employer wouldn’t want to reschedule an interview for a family wedding. Who would want to work for a company like that?” one person wrote.
