Lecturer (Teaching) in UCL mechanical engineering
UCL mechanical engineering forms engineering education for more than 170 years. We were the first institution in the United Kingdom to appoint a professor of mechanical principles and practical training on the laboratory in the university curricula. Today, our students are taught by internationally recognized researchers and engaging in individual projects and an innovative group.
Our research extends a wide range of engineering challenges, including:
- Lightweight materials and structures for space and thermal applications
- Additional manufacturing operations and material properties
- Sustainable materials for the circular economy
- Advanced navy manufacturing
- Micro/nanoscale thermal techniques
We are still leading in educational innovation. In 2019, we launched MechspaceA dedicated facility for practical education, which supports and building full course design projects. In 2023, we presented three new MSC Master’s programs in UCL East, focusing on the manufacture of nano and advanced payment.
About the role
This role that focuses on teaching support our university mechanical engineering programs, with a future participation in graduate programs. We are looking for candidates who have experience in one of the foundations:
- Mechanics and materials
- Thermal/liquids

You will contribute to stereotypes across all levels – from primer (years 1-2) to a specialist (years 3-4 and MSC) – leading teaching sessions, workshops and laboratory activities. You will also participate in awareness, development curriculum, and create educational materials, while monitoring students’ progress and participation.
About you
You are attractive with a strong technical basis in mechanical engineering and a passion for education. Prepare:
- PhD in Engineering
- Experience in the design of the curriculum and delivery
- Excellence in teaching at the university level in materials/mechanics or thermal/fluid
- Experience of supervising university projects or graduate studies
- Efficiency in engineering programs (for example, FEA, CFD, Matlab, Python)
- A strong publishing record in engineering and/or educational research
- The ability to motivate and inspire students
- Strong time management and clear communication skills
- A cooperative and proactive approach to work with colleagues and students
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Downtown in fairness, diversity and inclusion
