Lead lighter at DreamWorks Animation in Glendale, California | 502327
This is a full time job
“What do you say you’re doing here?”
• Set up, lights and compose key shots for a specific sequence based on the artwork provided by the art department.
• Works closely with the production designer, art directors, VFX supervisor, lighting department head, and CG supervisor to define a visual goal for the sequence and process all lighting comments.
• Determine standards and techniques for lighting sequences that improve efficiency and ensure quality. Optimizes display settings.
• Provides technical support and guidance to the production lighting team.
• Leads by example in encouraging a good work atmosphere.
• Ensures that lighting settings are clean, well-detailed and exemplary and can be easily applied to other shots.
• Troubleshoot creative and technical issues as they arise.
• Initiates, sets up, coordinates and details any lighting tools, scripts, or processes.
• Displays the drilling sequence on production lights before starting. Explains the technical and aesthetic challenges of serialization.
• Collaborates with other departments to integrate items in a timely manner into sequence.
• Handles personal shot load based on schedule for a given sequence.
• May help facilitate visual development. This can include working with surfaces, specifying materials or shading parameters.
• Prepares daily newspapers and lighting fires as needed.
• Responsible for informing the CG supervisor of any serialization issues.
• Assists with interviewing and hiring as needed.
• Participates in testing new technologies as needed.
Qualifications
“What do I need to do this job?”
• 3 years experience in lighting production.
• Bachelor’s degree in art, film, visual effects, animation, computer graphics or other related fields and/or equivalent experience.
• Experience in lighting setup.
• Knowledge of cinematic principles.
• Must be willing to work in Glendale, California
• Willingness to work overtime, on weekends and with short notice
• You must be able to provide a range of work examples – if available, include a web address when submitting your CV
Required qualifications

• Experience with ray tracing and lighting software such as Nuke, Katana, and/or Houdini.
• Experience in distinctive animation.
• A proven track record of successful partnerships with other departments.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Proactive and creative in solving problems.
Fully Remote: This position is designated as fully remote, meaning the position will be expected to contribute from a non-DreamWorks work location, which is predominantly the employee’s residence.

Salary Range: $115,000 – $140,000
