The Research, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange (RIKE) Directorate provides expert advice and practical support for all aspects of business management relevant to research and research, including securing and raising funding, working with partners, sharing knowledge, demonstrating impact, commercializing outputs, ensuring good research practice and supporting professional development.

The Internal Funding and Programs Team (IFPT) within Rike provides a key service relating to all internally distributed funding from a variety of sources to support research development, knowledge exchange and impact in line with the objectives of the University Strategic Plan. The team also manages postgraduate research funding from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and other sources.

The Training Grants Funding and Competitions Coordinator will cover pre-awards and post-awards activities including supporting departments with competitions management and overall financial management of all funded accounts. This will include monitoring project budgets (e.g., forecasting and re-earning), income receipts and remittances, standard accounting practices (e.g., journals, accruals and advance matches), and compiling and submitting financial claims in line with reporting eligibility requirements.

This role will work closely with the PGR’s focus areas at the University, York’s postgraduate research school, student teaching and experience, as well as departmental and faculty funding leading to the management and support of a range of training grants and scholarships.

Necessary skills, experience and qualifications

You will ideally have a deep understanding of financial management and reporting within the PGR training scholarship landscape, but we would also welcome those working in similar environments who can demonstrate transferable skills. This includes handling the cost of grants, monitoring the budget and completing complex financial reconciliation/application processes for funders.

In addition, the role requires strong organizational and administrative skills, including coordinating title competitions, managing student records, and dealing with general inquiries directly from students. You must also be able to work flexibly to manage and prioritize complex cases. You will be an excellent aligner working with a wide range of stakeholders (external and internal). Although based in a supportive team, you must be comfortable working independently and without close supervision.
