Summary of the job
College of Labor and Employment (LER) at the University of Illinois in Urbana Chambine has an immediate opening of Big Research Specialist At the recently formed Climate Institute (CJI). A great research specialist will conduct research, supervise the intersection of climate change, create job opportunities and economic development. We are particularly interested in experienced candidates in collecting quantitative data, statistical analysis, and economic modeling.
This position is located in the Urbana Champion, IL inside Ler on the campus of the University of Illinois. Distinctive or hybrid options (inside Illinois) are available for consideration.
The LER Climate Job Institute was established in 2022 to help Illinois to move to the carbon zero economy, with research progressing workers and their societies. We direct the government climate policy to reduce emissions and enhance the creation of high -quality job opportunities through:
- Reports, tools and resources;
- Involving work, industry, societies and policy makers;
- Guidance of students students; and
- Enhancing applied research cooperation.
Through research rooted in climate and economic justice, we imagine the future of clean energy as workers and societies flourish.
Duties and responsibilities
The great research specialist will:
- Cooperation with the CJI leadership team to develop the institute’s research agenda, ensuring that the research is strict, innovative and related to the institute’s mission.
- The original research, applies and academy focused on economic effects and labor market for climate policies and clean energy.
- Work cooperatively with faculty members, employees, research consultants, stakeholders and student research assistants in research projects.
- Managing research projects and members of the research team to ensure the delivery of research products in a timely manner.
- Apply a variety of quantitative research methods to analyze administrative data and survey, collect current information and statistics, grow model jobs and other economic effects, evaluate clean energy policies in the state and workforce development programs.
- Edit and create research reports and translate research into presentations, policy reports, media articles and more.
- Present, participation in, attending conferences, workshops and public events related to research topics.
- Determining financing opportunities and contributing to grant proposals and financing for the Institute of Climate Jobs.
The minimum requirements
- Master’s or advanced degree in public policy, economics, urban planning, law, labor relations, or related discipline.
- 4-5 years of experience in conducting research, economic, environmental, labor or policies, preferably related to climate change and a clean energy economy.
- Show the research excellence record, including publications and grants.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in leading research teams and managing complex research projects.
- The ability to prepare presentations and craft documents that translate the research and the complex concepts of various audiences.
- The ability to work in a cooperative environment, providing independent and critical thinking with thinking about various opinions and approach.
- Experience with online searches and libraries, research studies design, data collection and analysis.
- Knowledge of many areas of the following research topic including climate policy and clean energy, renewable energy and other low -carbon economic sectors, environmental justice, labor markets, labor market institutions, labor unions, workforce training programs and economic development.
- The ability to manage the multi -competitive final dates and be flexible while changing work priorities.
- The ability to work independently for long periods of time with limited supervision.
- Experience and skill using and learning different software packages and web -based tools (for example, Microsoft Office and Lexis Nexis, library data rules and statistical analysis programs).
Favorite qualifications:
- From four to five years of experience in the research evaluation environment and/or program.
- The ability to manage large data collections and extrapolate data for use in public policy analysis.
- The experience of working with the infrastructure of joint computing computing.
- Experience with quantitative research methods, including statistical analysis methods and quantitative data collection (such as the slope of the painting, methods of studying events, arithmetic text analysis).
- Experience with statistical analysis program (for example, R, Stata, Arcgis)
- Experience with methods and programs for economic modeling and analysis of inputs and outputs (such as Diran models, Jedi)
- Iffairs with academic and applied research on labor markets and labor market institutions.
- Knowledge of climate, clean energy, or work policy in Illinois.
- The ability to conduct public policy research and understand the decision -making process and law making in Illinois.
Appointment information
This is a 100 % full -time academic position, appointed by 12 months. The salary range ranges 80,000 dollars – 100,000 dollars annually, commensurate with experience. Although this position is a position specializing in continuous research, employment is subject to the availability of continuous financing.
