This doctoral project aims to achieve a thermal efficiency penetration (> 50 %) for the generators of free piston engines (FPEGS). The research will lead to a pioneer in a new and integrated methodology that combines high -resolution mathematical modeling and artificial intelligence to overcome the main barriers of performance.

The investigation will focus on improving basic gas exchanges and combustion, which is very important. An advanced digital framework will be developed, the moving CFD is associated with detailed chemical movements to evaluate advanced cover designs and low temperature combustion methods (such as, HCCI) for pure chest fuel such as hydrogen and ammonia.

A main innovative column is to develop the control strategy that is driven by artificial intelligence. Automated learning algorithms, including reinforcement learning, will be trained in simulation data to create dynamic and air control systems that improve actual time operation through multiple variables.

This research will provide a validated road map to 60 % of efficiency, new engines, and an open source artificial intelligence tool. The results will provide great academic and practical contributions to develop very sustainable energy generation technologies.
