The Ministry of Labor in Georgia Fill out resources to support federal employees while the government is closed
Saturday, 4 October, 2025-6: 00 pm
News version-
Georgia’s Ministry of Labor (GDO) is filling out the resources to ensure that more than 110,000 federal workers in Georgia can quickly reach the advantages, services and guidance during the closing of the ongoing federal government.
“The Georgia Ministry of Labor is obligated to support every worker affected by the closure of the federal government,” said Labor Commissioner in Georgia Barbara Rivera Holmes. “Millions of workers in all parts of the industries – from manufacturing to health care – depends on stable government financing to keep upcoming salaries and ongoing operations. The separation in financing does not threaten not only our livelihoods, but also the momentum of economic recovery. Protection of jobs means protecting families, societies and the future of our nation. It is time to act now.”
Federal employees may be qualified to apply for unemployment insurance benefits. Online claims can be made on https://dol.georgia.gov Through the MYUI or Personal Classification Gate in one of the 34 functional centers in GDOL at the state level. To facilitate access to information, GDOL prepared a dedicated web page Where federal workers can find updated guidelines and resources-all in one place.
The main facts of federal employees
- Federal unemployment claims depend on the last duty station for the employee, and not necessarily the status of its residence.
- Federal workers must submit claims to provide additional information about work and wage from their agency. During the closure, agencies may not respond immediately, which can affect treatment times if the worker fails to provide information.
- Federal employees are considered “molten” and are not required to conduct a job search during the first six weeks.
- Federal employees who work but do not receive their salaries to report total profits when ordering weekly unemployment payments.
- Once Congress resolves closing, workers made of leave will receive their salaries. Any benefits of paid unemployment should be paid during this time.
Besides unemployment, GDOL job centers link workers with major workforce partners – including the Technical College system in Georgia and Georgia – providing training programs, functional support and community resources.
“Our priority is to make sure that the federal employees in Georgia have accurate information, the ease of access to services, and clear guidelines about the steps that must be taken after that.” “We have gone through a closure before, and our employees are ready to help quickly and have mercy.”
