The original naval archeology aims to expand our understanding of the archaeological registry around the world above and under the surface of the water by integrating the original dates and global destinations. It exceeds the mere study of underwater sites and encourages the active participation of the original peoples in marine archeology. This is in line with the increasing awareness of the original archeology in both discipline and also with the largest audience.

They go beyond archaeological sites, traditional lands of the original peoples and include the entire archaeological registry worldwide, including areas in the environment near the nearby beach and outside underwater. It may include typical underwater archaeological sites, such as shipwrecks, but it may also include other important areas, such as the study of indigenous population, cultural landscapes, and others.

The first original marine archeology conference in Canada was held on Saturday, April 15th in Vancouver, British Columbia. Topics included the antiquities of the submerged sites in the northwestern coast of the Pacific, environmental change over the years and how they affected the culture of the first nations and new views about finding additional underwater archaeological sites.

This research topic provides a forum for publications resulting from the conference and others. It will feature articles that share information about research that is done in the northwest coast of the Pacific and other parts around the world.
