History of writing on a travel at Warwick University

Apps 2026-2027 Entrance to the history of Wheeler for open travel students now.

The program seeks to attract talented researchers whose projects may focus on any period or region in the world. It is expected that the applicants will explain that their project is historical in the first place by its nature, and to engage in travel and travel writing as a historical practice and/or a source of historical research. Preference can be given to candidates who adopt a global historical perspective and have the ability to work with single -language sources.

Successful applicants will benefit from the extensive experience represented by the Ministry of History in Warwick and the Center for History and Global Culture as well as the training and development opportunities set by the department and the PhD College. Candidates are encouraged to explain how their proposal is proportional to the current research file of the Ministry.

We welcome projects that interact with the history of travel and travel from a variety of perspectives and disciplinary curricula, including global history, history of science and technology, environmental history, history of race and empire, sex history, history of material culture, and studies after colonialism. Candidates interested in joint supervision are invited through departments (for example with English literary studies and comparison, the school of languages ​​and modern cultures, policy and international studies) to indicate its preference over its application. Possible fields of concentration include, but not limited to:

  • Travel advice literature, from merchant’s evidence to commercial guidelines
  • Travel, sex and intersection
  • Travel and travel from the global south
  • Indirect travel, from the geography of the chair to VR
  • History is an incomplete representation of travel and global equality
  • Travel, sustainability and the environment

It is expected that the candidates in the intellectual life of the administration will participate by participating in the activities of their research centers and to connect the results of their research actively through presentations, publications and public participation.

Funding details

The award, which was presented to enter the fall of 2026, will include the following:

  • Full payment of study fees at the rate of UK or O/S.
  • Paid maintenance salary at the prevailing price of Ukry for 3.5 years.
  • The RTSG (RTSG) grant (RTSG) is 3,000 pounds annually for 3.5 years.
  • One of the conference is 1500 pounds and the General Participation Fund.
