Participant researcher (remote sensing for irrigated crops) at Manchester University

We are seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic postal researcher (PDRA) to play a major role in presenting two major international projects (transgression and IRREO) supporting the sustainable development of irrigated agriculture in Latin America and sub -Saharan Africa. Driving non -air projects and transgression by Dr. Tim Foster, PI of the Agriculture, Water and Climate Research Group and Manchester Institute of Environmental Research (MEI).

Irrigation expanding is necessary to adapt to the climate, improve food security, and support economic development. However, the ability to design and implement effective irrigation investments is significantly limited due to the lack of data about the current range of irrigation and how the irrigated areas have responded to previous investments. The lack of information about the variable dynamics of irrigated agriculture also poses risks to the sustainability of water resources, especially in small agricultural systems.

PDRA will develop satellite -based mapping tools to improve government data, finance actors and development around the variable range of irrigated agriculture, and use these data to support targeting irrigation projects, investments and investments.

PDRA will be an integral part of the UOM team that works in both non -rooted projects and transcending projects, including the participating conservatives and a large team of researchers in PDRA and PHD. PDRA will also collaborate closely with non -academic partners for both projects, including national governments, river basin agencies, international agencies and donors for development.

Due to the nature of financing, this post is available for a preliminary period of 24 months with the date of the start of the target in late 2025 or early January 2025. Due to funding, the role is expected to be divided between the projects that are not possible in the first year, over time completely after the IRRO project.

As equal opportunities, we welcome applicants from all sections of society regardless of age, sex, sex (or sexual identity), race, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All dates are made on merit.
