High-resolution sub-scan reveals a hidden history in Sicily-underwater antiquities and maritime history functions
The coastal environments and the sea surrounding the Sicily are a layer with geological complexity and thousands of years of human history. In a recent survey of high -resolution sub -descriptions conducted in the port of Porto Empidocli, high -resolution audio data has been obtained that reflects this double legacy. The work was part of a project that included ancient underwater surveys to assess archaeological risks in preparation for the creation of a pipeline of the submarine pipeline near Porto Embidocli.
Using Geoacoustics Geopulse Sub-Bottom Profiler paired with the Wavemaster Wavemaster Wavemaster Trimble POS navigation system, the team assigned a high-resolution sea floor layer. The data collection revealed soft silt sediments covered with gray clay from the form of gray from the formation of Mont Narbon. It was a strong audio return at a depth of about 22 meters-a prominent nature and perhaps human origins-of special importance.
This article determines the tools and methodology used, developed workflow to acquire and process data, and a representative example of the data set.
