Utrecht University invites requests for post-doctoral researcher on the Consolidator ERC project “fighting epidemics from the bottom: global cooperation for public health in the north and south in the Middle East and North Africa, 1792-1942 (cooperation).”

Your work

As a researcher after a doctorate, you will work on a sub-project within the cooperation of the Consolidator Praant project (2024-2029) funded by the European Research Council (ERC) and its removal before Dr. Ozan Ozfashi (The main investigator, PI) at the Ministry of History and Technical History. The project of lost archives and historical knowledge in international cooperation for public health between the “global north” and “the global south” through the analysis of the first and longest cases: health councils in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). In Tangier, Alexandria, Tunisia, Istanbul and Tehran, these unprecedented institutions were established against epidemics and epidemics between the 1990s and the forties. European and American founders and citizens have created new models to fight epidemics from the bottom and stop diseases in their paths. They have been constantly sought to overcome the familiar barriers to cooperation that the competition between imperialism in a multi -polar world, economic inequality destinations, protests against restrictions on quarantine and ethnic and eastern biases are among other things. The Cooperation Project will write an intertwined history of health cooperation, by converting the concentration from operations from top to bottom up. You will be responsible for sub -project 1: Morocco, which will discuss the dynamics of cooperation in the field of public health in the city of Tangier.

you will:

  • Conducting research during the appointment period in the Netherlands as well as in the archives in Europe, North America, the Middle East and North Africa;
  • Publishing the article of the Journal of the Lazers and Distinction of a Book;
  • Help organize a workshop on the health international in the Middle East and North Africa;
  • Participate in project meetings and close cooperation with other members of the research team;

Your characteristics

  • You hold a doctorate in a related field (for example the nineteenth and early twentieth century, imperial history, history of medicine, the history of the Middle East/North Africa, etc.) at the time of appointment.
  • You have a busy record of academic publications and public communication.
  • You have an excellent and written English driving.
  • You have a very good reading capacity for one or more European language.
