Maintaining a link in the labor market is uncertain
Maintaining a link in the labor market is uncertain
Written by Diane Darling
Well, we are here again – it seems that restructuring and reorganization occurs everywhere. Especially in places like Washington, DC, the labor market feels … fragile.
Here is the truth: You and I cannot control corporate budgets or Wall Street. But we He can Control how we are ready, and how we respond when something changes.
Consider this informal play book to stay ready and stay relevant. This is not fictional. They are just things you have learned (and lived) that may help you move at this moment with a little more confidence.
Write the note “I love me”
The first time I heard about this, I frankly believed that the woman who participated was small silent. But then I saw her in reviewing her performance with an abundant amount of data (specific victory, results, email messages with praise), and won me.
Start now. Create a document or folder where you collect your victories, your globalization, main performance indicators, screen shots (everything that shows your value). Preserving it is organized and searched.
It may feel slightly absurd in the beginning, but when you need a case to raise, promote or job, you will be happy because you get it.
LinkedIn is not Twitter. Or Facebook.
I asked a lot, “Diane, what is the simple thing I can do to stay visible professionally?”
answer: Use LinkedIn. regularly.
Update your profile. Spreading useful content. Share what you learn, or what you are working on, or even a technical tool that tries to go out (yes, I am currently playing with something called Lemonlice … more about it soon).
While we are here, LinkedIn is not the right place for political discussions or personal drama. Stay away from hot and keep it professionally. He thinks usefulno diffuse.
He is heading up or heading down? both of them.
This is difficult.
If you keep your head down also Many, no one knows what you are doing, and this secret can put you at risk when the discounts occur. But if the company’s culture feels nervous or uncertainty, it may not be the time to be the highest voice in the room as well.
Here’s my advice: Do an excellent job, and make sure people see the results. Share fast updates in meetings. View the results. Be visible strategically… not for the offer, but for the material.
Get comfort with rhetoric (yes, even you)
The rhetoric does not mean the talk of Ted. This means that you are able to explain your work clearly and confidently … in a meeting, in enlargement, or at the communication event.
Warren Buffett says this is the number 1 skill that determines your success. I agree.
Now, I don’t Love Do dishes, but I can do them well enough. The same with rhetoric. You don’t have to love her, just be qualified.
No one is looking for perfection. They are looking for clarity, confidence and the ability to engage.
Networks (I will go a little roll here …)
Networks are the last in this list, but it may be the most misunderstanding.
Many people think it is Schmoozy, fake, or only useful when you are desperate. mistake. Networks are muscles. The more stronger you use it, the more powerful.
I often hear, “I hate communication.” fine. But do you like job security? Do you like options?
Networks revolve around relationships. Not only who you know, it is who knows you, and what they know about you. It heard you. This is how opportunities appear before publishing them at all.
So go to this event. Contact someone you like. Ask a former colleague how to do. You don’t bother them. You are a human being.
Final ideas
At the end of the day, staying relevant is not a delightful … it is related to being studied, visible and preparation.
Ask yourself:
- Can I clearly express the value I brought?
- Is the LinkedIn profile and urban work for me?
- Did I see (and heard) in ways of charges?
- Do I build and sponsor my professional relationships?
The labor market may be uncertain, however You It should not be.
I got this.
And if you are not … start writing a memo “I love me.”
