The teaching staff is looking to appoint a post -doctoral researcher or post -doctoral research colleague to conduct research on a Nerc project entitled “What defines the Fairum: the environment, the environment or the history of species?”

The project will include a large sample collection from several thousand mites, which cover more than 200 species, using Rnaseq to examine the diversity of viruses that hosts it, and the use of mixed models to develop to look at the environmental and evolutionary foreclosure of species viruses.

The successful applicant will be responsible for leading field work, molecular work, biomedical information, data analysis, and working closely with a researcher and field assistant, with the main researchers Ben Longjadon and Darin Obird. The publication will be placed on the campus of the University of Cornwall at the International Excellent Center for Conservation and Environment https://ecologyconservation.exter.ac.uk/research/. The center has a large number of researchers working in development and the environment, including a large group of researchers working on host parasites interactions, insect environment and development, and provides an exciting and stimulating research environment.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; Defining research financing sources, contributing to the process of providing funds and submitting presentations in conferences and other events.

Applicants will have a relevant doctoral degree in the field of study. The successful applicant will be a recognized authority at the national level in the evolutionary environment of host nurses or a related field, and she has sufficient specialized knowledge in discipline to develop research programs and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work cooperatively, oversee the work of others and act as a team leader as required. Applicants will operate the field work independently (driving all over the UK) requires and manages and processing a large number of samples, implementing molecular work (RNA extraction), running biological analysis on Rnaseq data, and using a mixed model approach to consider virus predictions. An experiment in the double of these areas is desirable, but training will be provided.
