The general statement of responsibilities and duties:
The preservation section of the objects at the Metropolitan Museum supports the highest professional standards in maintaining the works of the museum 3D. It will be one of three conservatives dedicated to preserving European and American wooden furniture, things, and historical interiors. You will be responsible for the coated wooden furniture, doctrine, things and historical interiors from the fourth to the early twentieth century.
Basic responsibilities and duties:
- Maintaining relevant things, including examination, research, treatment, and overseeing environmental conditions in stores and exhibitions according to AIC guidelines and museum protocols.
- Check and document objects for received or issued loans, acquisitions, and gifts.
- Study objects of material identification and technology questions, including the use of analytical devices such as X -ray and microscopy.
- Prepare samples to analyze them by the Ministry of Scientific Research and communicate with scientists with regard to goals and results.
- Communicating with conservatives, conservative preparators, values, technicians, technical treatments, buildings and exhibitions, and the registrar’s office regarding incoming and issued loans, exhibitions, rotation of the permanent exhibition, and storage.
- Provide advice on preventive measures related to the stability of the object and the safety of the exhibition, the management of integrated pests, and other environmental concerns.
- Participate in the selection and supervision of external specialists who participate in the projects related to memorization.
- Prepare visual and written documents for treatments and research, and a file according to administration protocols.
- Traveling locally and internationally as needed to examine the artistic and suburbs related to new acquisitions and loans.
- Supervising the final departments or young conservatives, colleagues and students.
- Help with time -sensitive projects as appointed by the responsible conserevator.
- Participate in donation collection activities in departments.
- Expanding knowledge in the field of conservation by taking advantage of the department’s experience and resources, and the museum’s chances for professional development.
- Publishing activities and results on various platforms, including public and professional lectures, and printed and digital publications.
- Participate in committees and initiatives at the museum level as necessary.

Requirements and qualifications:
- A master’s degree of internationally recognized graduate preservation program.
- Experience in the field of memorization for at least five years in working with coated wooden furniture, doctrine, things and historical interior designs required. The museum is preferred.
- Knowing the development of the patterns and techniques of historical wooden furniture and the required historical objects and interior.
- Experience in the artistic examination of the required historical and gilded wooden works.
- Skill using investigation techniques such as microscope, multi -spectrum imaging, spectral analysis of X -ray, and x -ray imaging.
- Experience with layer analysis of painted and gilded surfaces, prepare the cross section, and the desired interpretation.
- Efficiency with the required shared memorization documents tools.
- Excellent handicrafts, attention to details, and the ability to achieve consistent results required.
- The required carpentry skills.
- Project management skills and the ability to work effectively and cooperative have proven in partnership with other colleagues.
- Excellent written, oral, and required personality.
- FDNY C-14 Laboratory Certificate of Fitness or Preparation and the ability to obtain a certificate within six months of the required employment.

The scope of compensation:
- Payment range: 92,000.00 dollars – 97,000.00 dollars / annually

Site requirements
At work time, employees are expected to be present at the museum. “Mobility distance” means that it is present in one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania (TI-State and PA regions “), and is able to move to and from the museum in one day.
