Biology are cellular treatments and protein that transforms medical results: this extends to insulin for diabetes, obesity-like peptides, CAR-T Cancer cells and more. The main challenge is how to connect them to the patient, before cells/proteins deteriorate. Virgin maintaining is the most used solution and we have created polymers to protect cells from cold stress. However, there are many situations that cannot be frozen, or not available for electricity, and the storage of room temperature will be desirable.
The goal of this doctorate is to develop polymers and small particles, which can protect cells (and proteins) while drying freezing (freezing) to generate stable solid combinations at room temperature. This will include the delivery of vital active installation factors to the cells, and polymers to stabilize membranes and precisely control ice growth. We will use traditional and highly productive technologies, including our internal platforms.
Gibsongroup has global level facilities in both the Chemistry Department (where this role is mainly based) and also at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology (MIB). The new chemistry laboratories (2023) that feature a specialized writing space, smoke covers, analytical equipment including UV, FTIR (in 2024), pillars, and liquid handling systems. For polymer analysis, we have a SEC multi -dishes, as well as Core NMR sections and comprehensive specifications facilities. We reach the UKS National Materials Institute, ROYCE, which is located in a nearby building. In MIB, we have a tissue culture, microbiology, microbiology laboratories and a vital analytical wing including biological overlap, cellular flow, high -content living microscope, (in 2024) granulated microscopy. From 2025, the team will host the unique glycan creation platform in the United Kingdom.

Applicants must have, or expect to achieve, at least, at least 2.1 degrees or master’s degree (or international equivalent) in the field of relevant science or engineering.
