Summary of the job

Getty is looking for applications of innovative and advanced individuals to think to join the Digital Supervision and Modified Descriptive Data Department at the Getty Research (GRI). Its headquarters in Los Angeles, GRI is committed to the progress of knowledge and the understanding and history of visual arts. The Research Library, which serves an international community of scientists, serves one of the largest libraries of art and architecture in the world, with holdings exceeding 1.5 million volumes. Our private collections include rare books, magazines, pictures, publications and graphics from the fifteenth century to plans and architectural models, artistic complications, movies, audio and video recordings, born digital content, wide archives and manuscripts groups.

As a major institutional priority, GRI adopts a transformational approach at the program level for the strategy of descriptive data. This is an exciting transition moment, as we undertake major initiatives to develop systems and operations that manage and publish our digital archive groups. These efforts open new opportunities to generate and enrich descriptive data on a large scale, and are based on the ability to use and sustainable practices. Descriptive data strategists will play a major role in designing and implementing innovative workflow tasks to create and linking the definition, closely cooperating with the internal teams via GRI and with Getty Technology Partners. This position also provides the opportunity to contribute to initiatives at the level of institutions in the open data associated and the bracket data management platform.

Main job responsibilities

  • Design and lead projects focused on treating and enriching descriptive data, and working in partnership with internal stakeholders through the Getty Research and Getty Digital
  • Analyze the descriptive data of the source archive to determine the chances of reconciliation, normalization and enrichment that improves discovery and interconnection.
  • Driving and implementing the strategies for enriching the descriptive data that enhances and expands the data infrastructure associated with GRI
  • Create and maintain quality control operations to assess the accuracy and consistency and ease of the use of descriptive data produced through emerging models and methodologies to ensure merit and alignment with institutional standards
  • Applying the methods of arithmetic analysis and tools to support the analysis of descriptive data and enrichment on a large scale
  • Determining and following up the opportunities for external descriptive data, including participation in the two compounds, Wikidata, and other open data warehouses
  • Providing guidance and guidance to employees on the updated workflow, tools and emerging descriptive data practices
  • Contributing to the improvements to data management by providing inputs on features, workflow and tools that support the creation and enrichment of the developed descriptive data
  • Contributes to documenting standards, procedures and workflow

Qualifications

  • Mlis from the ALA approved program; Bachelor’s degree and additional graduate degree in a preferred suitable specialty
  • The 5 -year professional experience is minimal
  • Supervision experience and/or relevant project management may require

Knowledge, skills and capabilities

  • Strong knowledge of the current descriptive data standards used in library archives, museums, such as EAD, Dublin Core, Cidoc-CRM and other emerging standards
  • Technical experience in OpenREFINE and other methods and calculations to retrieve data, analysis, reconciliation, and transformation
  • Infintering with or ready to learn Bethon and other relevant text programming languages
  • The ability to build experience in emerging methods as well as the standards of practice in force
  • Infintering with database and data management structures
  • The basic understanding of the concepts of data and associated techniques; Prepare to develop experience on Linked.Art, Json-LD and Arches platform
  • Experience in project management and/or supervisory roles
  • Excellent and analytical communication skills and problem solving
  • The ability to visualize the work of descriptive data within a broader institutional and strategic goals
  • The ability to work cooperatively in collective environments has proven with colleagues across the fields
  • The ability to adapt and effective in dynamic and advanced work environments
  • Attention to education, training and knowledge sharing
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to fulfill the final dates, apply policies and procedures constantly, conduct research, and provide recommendations
  • The ability to design and improve workflow while understanding how changes affect systems, employees and current operations.
  • A strong understanding of the role of descriptive data in enhancing research and discovery within user facades.
