The Development Studies Institute (IDS) is a leading global institution for research, learning and teaching on development. For nearly 60 years, we have formed thinking and development practice, we feel the Orthodox challenge, and an interaction of ideas that drive gradual change. Along with the University of Sussex, we are proud to be first in the world for development studies in QS International Classics, a position we have made for nine consecutive years. Our work is devoted to generating knowledge and its participation that forms work, affects politics, and builds leadership for the most fair and sustainable development in the world. Every year, IDS cooperates with governments, charitable institutions, multilateral organizations, NGOs, academics and civil society to confront urgent and complex challenges, from climate justice and health security to inequality, governance and the impact of emerging technologies.
The Board of Trustees is now looking for a new director to lead identifiers in the following strategic period. The director, who provides reports to the Board of Directors, provides intellectual inspiration and institutional leadership, and enhances IDS position as a critical and independent field of development thinking, and raising the level of the institute on the international theater. They will be responsible for forming and providing the strategy, building and diversifying the base of financing, strengthening fair partnerships, and enabling a comprehensive culture that a diverse community of employees and students can excel.
IDS is welcomed by applications of leaders who have a wide range of relevant backgrounds, especially from the global south. Candidates will bring a strong consensus with the mission and values ​​of IDS, the academic and intellectual status to clarify respect and inspiration through disciplines and geography. They will have a proven driving record in multi -dimensional organizations, experience in work in the global south, and a busy record in building fair partnerships all over the world. The basic characteristics include financial and operational acumen, excellent driving skills, and the ability to move in changing the United Kingdom and global contexts. The understanding of teaching and education, and insight on the role of emerging techniques in the formation of development will be of great value.

This role in Sussex, the UK, and the salary will be able to compete with the market price and negotiable depending on experience and skills.
The post is a hybrid, with the expectation that the successful candidate will spend a personally reasonable time in IDS.
