Although it is long known that people can influence each other’s opinion, models allow us to understand how this process can partially lead to consensus, polarization and societal change at the total level. The field has come a long way since the first opinion model was published almost 70 years ago.

In particular, the use of computer simulation, such as the agent’s models, expanded the scope of this range and the clarification of these models. Among other things, models can now be used to study the interaction between social and economic change, investigate the impact of social media algorithms, and an explanation of political polarization and can repeat the development of experimental opinion patterns. In times of multiple crises that are exacerbated due to increased polarization, this search line is more important and urgent than ever.

The Graz Schumpeter Winter School and Colibri Focus workshop is a major opportunity to obtain a recent knowledge of the form of conscience and social change, and to discuss future trends with senior researchers in this field.

This event aims for both young and bright researchers. A limited number of participants will have the opportunity to present their work and discuss it with the main speakers.

How to apply: Applicants must fill out the application form and send it with their CV and a motivation message from one page until July 31, 2025 to teresa.lackner (AT)UNI-Graz.at. Applicants who want to present a paper also must also include an expanded summary (2-4 pages) of their work as part of their application.

The Winter School will be held at Grats University, which is located near the city center.
