Description

background

We are looking for a talented post -doctoral researcher and motivation to join Dr. Paul Vogue and Professor Farid Aston to study the structure and mechanism of viral DNA filling engines. Its headquarters will be at the University of York at one of the leading departments of the UK, with a reputation in international -level research. You will also be part of the world -famous structural biology laboratory (YSBL) in the chemistry department, where you can access protein production facilities, crystal, X -ray crystals, and a cooling facility.

role

Under the supervision of Dr. Paul Vogue and Professor Farid Aston, the project will be an investigation into the DNA packaging mechanism by viruses, especially entities similar to viruses known as genetic transmission factors (GTAS). GTAS differs from real viruses in that they do not recognize and fill their DNA, but target the bacterial host’s genome for publication. A comparison of viral and GTA structures and packaging mechanisms will lead to wide visions of the virus. DNA privacy can also have important effects on genes, such as whatever factors or antimicrobial resistance genes (AMR), but can also be used for new applications of biotechnology. The research will require the production and purification of the GTA molecules and relevant bacteria, determining the structure of proteins and DNA protein assemblies by electronic microscope by cooling and rebuilding 3D particles. Structural studies will be completed by the molecular/genetic interrogation of the bacterial host and GTAS and possible mechanisms for filling the DNA and achieving appropriate biochemical tests.

The necessary skills, experience and qualifications

  • You must have, or about to obtain it, a doctorate degree in structural biology, biochemistry, microbiology/viruses or related fields
  • Knowledge of molecular biology and genetics from bacterial viruses
  • Experience of relevant technologies such as the production and purification of bacterial molecules or particles that resemble virus, protein purification, and definition of the structure by crystals/Cryo -im
  • Excellent communication skills showed by the publication of your research in high -quality publications reviewed by peers and presentations in conferences or others
  • The work experience independently and part of the team
  • The spirit of cooperative and the positive attitude towards colleagues and students
  • Attention to details and adherence to high quality and ability to plan and determine the priorities of private work to fulfill the final dates, and the ability to develop research goals
  • Commitment to personal development and preserving updated knowledge and skills.

Date of the interview: To be confirmed

For informal inquiries: Please contact Dr. Paul Vogue (paul.fogg@york.ac.ukDMTHub (DMTHUB)biol-dmthub@york.ac.uk).

We want to recruit the best people for our roles, and we realize that traditional action patterns may not be suitable for everyone. We offer a set of flexible work options (such as Flexitime, part -time, job sharing), please determine the flexible work preferences in your request (number of days / watches, etc.).

The university seeks to be varied and comprehensive – the place where we all can be ourselves.

We especially encourage requests from people who know that they are black, Asian, or from a minority ethnic background, represented by an incomplete representation at the university.

We offer friendly and flexible work arrangements, with comprehensive forums and facilities to support our employees. #Equalityatyork
