🔥 Doctorate in the vertical steel industry in the electric arc oven and its use at Warwick University
revealed
Funding source: EPSRC Industrial PhD Industrial Award (IDLA)
Civilization: Available for home fees and European Union students in the United Kingdom
Supporting company: Tata Steel United Kingdom
Supervisors:
Warwick University: Professor Zushu Lee, Dr. Cheng Yan,
Tata Steel UK: Dr. Siaran Martin, Dr. Bin Chiao
Start date: October 2025 (or before)
Project overview:
An enthusiastic researcher is invited to join a team to work in the Epsrc Industoral Monscape Award project in cooperation with the Tata Steel UK industrial partner. The project aims to enhance the basic knowledge of the effect of the remaining elements inherited from the scrap of the steel on the performance of slag and its use in the steel of the EAF electric arc (EAF). The research will support the transmission of the steel industry to the manufacture of pure chest steel and enhances the high value of the new EAF steel.
The transition to the EAF steel -based steel industry, using a high percentage of ore -based scrap (OBMS), is an attractive way to remove carbon in the steel -making process. However, the remaining elements inherited from the scrap may significantly change the performance of slag during the steel industry and the use of slag. The remaining elements inherited from the scrap of steel such as CU, CR, NI, Zn, SN and PB will be distributed, along with OBM alloys such as V and MN (which depends on iron ore sources) between steel, malice and dust during the EAF steel industry. The presence of these remaining elements in slag may affect its physical and chemical properties, including composition, viscosity, surface tension, electrical conductivity, which in turn affects
The effective use of eaffa -based eccles will be greatly affected by oxide and levels of those remaining elements. The potential destinations of the EAF bakes include industrial waste burials, recycling/recycling (for example a return to steel production process, high value recycling). Industrial waste dump will lead to great costs for the steel maker and should be avoided. For high -value recycling/recycling, it is important to understand the stages in which the remaining elements are located, their behaviors during the use of malice, and how they can be converted into unsuccessful stages or recovery. These challenges are still largely uncomfortable.
This research will be conducted using the world leading research facilities (high temperature experience, advanced descriptions and modeling) at the advanced steel research center, WMG University. This doctoral class provides a unique opportunity to work on the exciting topic with prominent scientists in Tata Steel UK.
Basic and desirable standards:
1 or 2: 1 University stage (Beng, BSC, MENG) and/or Master’s CAEs (MSC) in the field of science and technology such as minerals, chemical engineering, ceramic, material science and engineering, manufacturing, physics, chemistry,
A passion and enthusiasm to challenge the latest stabbing and application of leading research facilities in the world to create critical knowledge and industrial applications.
