Applications are invited to the position of director of groups and archives at the Royal Irish Academy. The Irish Royal Academy is an institution that is often funded in public to enhance learning in science and humanity throughout Ireland. The main purpose of the role

The director of groups and archives is an administrative role responsible for managing the daily RIA Library and contributing to the strategic direction, developing, preserving and promoting rare books in the library, manuscripts, archives and other unique materials. This role guarantees that groups be available, keep them well and comply with the library mission to preserve cultural heritage, support research and increase general participation.

The main accountability

Leadership and management

  • Supervising, supporting and managing library staff, volunteers, trainees and daily operations at the RIA Library, including providing high -quality reference service to the members of the Academy (MRIAS), researchers and members of the public

  • Support and contributing to strategic and commercial planning, purchases, project management, employee management and development, resource and budget management

  • Leading the team in implementing best practices for assembly security, including risk management and disaster response planning

  • Working with the Oscars’ Secretary to determine and follow up on funding and relevant partnership

  • Representatives of the Oscar Library when needed

Collection

  • Group care, storage and documentation management, including developing and implementing policies and procedures, carrying out wounds and records of records, assembly movements, exhibitions, loans and other projects, annual cleaning and shares management

  • Managing all aspects of maintenance and storage environments in the library places, and help in planning future space needs and contributing to preserving the physical and digital groups through the implementation of best practices and memorization strategies

  • Develop groups, supervise indexing, create descriptive data and relevant documents, including evaluation, arrangement and processing of groups according to professional standards

  • It leads to the development and implementation of systems and services to promote and increase access to groups including archive management programs (ATOM), digital conservation programs and digital asset management programs in cooperation with the owners of the internal interest

  • Department of digital memorization strategies and supervision of digitization projects to increase access to groups

  • Leadership Development and implementation of the schedule for retaining data and records, and providing advice and support to manage records for employees at the wider academy

  • Communication with contractors, including governors and other specialists, to coordinate relevant treatments and implement optimal storage solutions, ensure appropriate housing and put signs on materials to support long -term preservation

  • Supervising the establishment, management and use of digital groups, including digital asset management, supervision of digital projects, and the development and implementation of relevant strategies

  • Developing and implementing strategies to improve access to physical and digital groups, enhance diversity in groups and ensure language practices and comprehensive descriptive data

Access, communication and the participation of the stakeholders

  • Provide reference assistance and research experts for all library users

  • Contributing to awareness and participation programs, including exhibitions, publications, conversations, tours, classes, workshops and digital initiatives

  • It leads to a variety of projects and programs, including the Irish history project via the Internet and the development of a general database of historical MRIA data

  • Management of donor relationships and transplantation of relationships to support the development of a collection

  • It represents the library on professional committees and in internal and external meetings, attending conferences and seminars as part of continuous professional development

  • Cooperation with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the influence of groups through projects and initiatives

  • Improving discovery and access to groups by developing auxiliary tools to find research, digitization and digitization tools are easy to use

  • Empty other duties that are appropriate by the Oscar Secretary, within the scope of the floor

Basic qualifications

  • At least qualified for honor (level 8 on the national framework of qualifications)
  • Qualification after graduation in the archive and/or record management
  • Related post -rehabilitation experience for at least five years
  • An experience that can be clarified for employee and services management
  • Knowledge that can be clarified with the best professional practices and appropriate standards regarding the management of heritage groups
  • Excellent understanding, knowledge, task, and strategic of the Irish Royal Academy
  • The ability to identify and manage opportunities, and provide innovative ideas
  • A busy record of managing stakeholders’ relationships
  • Excellent knowledge of Irish culture and heritage
  • Strong knowledge of digital conservation systems and archive management
  • Excellent leadership, communications, research and organizational skills
  • Self -enthusiastic with the ability to give priority for diverse work and meet the deadlines

  • Experience of work continuity and disaster response planning
  • A busy record of work in a cooperative way
  • Budget management and financial implementation experience
  • Experiment to overseeing the introduction of the archive management system and/or digital memorization program

More information

salary: The salary on the AES 53,640 euros – 71,282 euros. Candidates should notice that entry will be at the minimum scale and the reward rate can be adjusted from time to time in line with the government wage policy. If you are currently a civil or general employee in the service, your entry point to the payment scale may be higher based on your current salary.

working hours: The normal hours of work are 35 hours a week.

  • Additional work is not paid in relation to the excessive presence that, if it appears, is unloaded according to time instead, sometimes agreed with it with the CEO.

Leave: The annual right of leave is 25 days annually, and is supportive for shorter periods. The entitlement to leaving public holidays is compatible with the conditions of the law regulating the work time for the year 1997.

medical: If necessary, at the expense of the academy, the employees must undergo a medical examination by a registered medical practitioner who is nominated by the academy and they do this medical practitioner detecting and discussing with the academy the results of the examination and the issues that arise from them.

pension: Details of the appropriate retirement scheme will be provided when determining the appointment status.

A permanent pension contribution: This date is subject to the additional retirement contribution (ASC) as of January 1, 2019.
