Overview of the situation

The Secretary of the Participation Library will lead the efforts made to link community members (including K-12 students, teachers, civil groups, and partner organizations) with extensive groups and services, Kenneth Spencer Research Library (KSRL). After submitting reports to the KSRL director and working with colleagues in Spencer and across Kuwait University libraries, the librarian will enhance access to materials and use them personally and through digital and remote services. They will design and implement programming that enhances the use of KSRL materials by public masses.
KSRL has offered long links with our societies, focusing on the distinctive library groups, historical memorization, and a broader cultural memory, as a supplier of the University of Kansas, the people of Kansas and the world. To support The strategic goals of KU libraries To help build life and vibrant societies by increasing the participation of society, the librarian will grow and support long -term opportunities, and develop new groups. They will cooperate on developing a sustainable program to communicate to balance instructions, tours, programming and other links from various potential stakeholders.
The Secretary of the Public Participation Library will have a related experience in teaching with the initial sources, community participation in a library or archive perimeter, and cooperative communication to achieve success in this role.

This position requires some evening work, weekend and accidental travel.

Professional responsibilities (70 %)

  • Designs, presenting and evaluating innovative programming that includes rare books, manuscripts, archives and other unique materials.
  • It explores new curricula in teaching and experimental learning using special groups.
  • Developing standards-based lessons plans for K-12 students, including content that can be delivered outside the site in the classroom with or without Spence employees.
  • Developing online educational resources related to primary sources, including exhibitions.
  • It helps in instructing sessions, field trips, tours, etc. on the site in the Spencer Research Library.
  • Efforts coordinate the National History Day of KSRL, such as developing web content and assisting researchers.
  • Awareness activities are (formally and unofficially) and participates in societal events to strengthen the Spencer Library groups and services for the Lawrence/Douglas County community and the general public.
  • It helps with the reference (personally and remote inquiries).
  • Developing the appropriate content for Spencer and other KSRL initiatives.
  • It works cooperative as a member of the project teams and other groups to enhance the strategic priorities of libraries.
  • It works cooperatively with faculty members and other library secretaries to design and provide library instructions to students.
  • It develops and maintains cooperative relationships with public and private schools in the region, home school groups, community groups such as Boys and Girls Club, Scouts, High Centers, Lawrence’s priorities, Douglas County, and surrounding provinces (including Kansas City Metropolitan).

Search (20 %)

  • It contributes to knowing the collective profession by engaging in scientific research activity.
  • Research may include publishing articles, books, book reviews, or investigation supported by grants or editorial work (see promotion and possession procedures in KU, Spring 2017).

Service (10 %)

  • It is involved in service for libraries, university and professional institutions by participating in the work of the committee, projects and other contributing achievements.

Required qualifications

Qualifications required for all candidates

The master’s degree approved in ALA in the library/information sciences or its equivalent from a foreign institution according to the date of appointment or PhD degree in library and information science from the LIS program, which also presented the master’s degree approved in ALA at the time of his doctorate granted.

The appointment in the rank of the Assistant Secretary of the Library requires a review of the candidate materials to ensure work at the documented level KU standards for academic ranks in the faculty members in the library
