Slide farm – mission and background

Slide Ranch teach visitors the impact of our choices on food, health and the environment, through practical activities and independent exploration of the land of the farm and coastal wildlife.

Slide Ranch was founded in 1970, a non -profit center for agriculture and environmental education. It overlooks the Pacific Ocean north of San Francisco within the Golden Gate National Entertainment (GGNRA) between MUIR and Stinson Beach, and the attachment is located in a historic dairy farm with an area of ​​134 acres over the age of 100 years. Nearly a third of our programs support residents with lack of services. Throughout the school year, children travel from urban and suburban areas to the farm and face animals and gardens that are the source of the foods they buy in the corner store or the grocery store. Slide Ranch educational programs are taught by teaching the trainees, who spend 10 and 1/2 months living and working on the site.

Summary of the situation: The Ranch Steward Reports to the Farm Operations Manager, which is part of the farm management team that also includes a major gardener and a facility manager. The Ranch Steward is responsible for managing all livestock in Slide Ranch in a way that is consistent with our mission. In addition to the Livestock Management, Steward farm coordinates with the farm management team and helps in the maintenance of other agricultural facilities as needed or guided. This position requires living on the site on the slide farm that the housing condition.

Basic responsibilities:

• · Responsible for monitoring and health of all livestock on the Slide farm in a consistent with the Slide Ranch mission
• · He manages vaccines and medicines in a planned and consistent way and seeks to get veterinary help as needed.
• · Watch animal meals; Requests and maintain feed, bedding and medical supplies.
• · It ensures that all housing and animal attachments are clean, safe and maintenance to reach the tutorial and interaction program.
• · It manages goat milk production.

• · Training and supervising the trainees in teaching the slide farm and employees to help daily animal works.

• · It helps keep the workshop and tools in a clean and safe work system.
• · It helps in training and direct all employees and trainees to use the workshop, tools and machines before declaring tools.
• · He plans and leads weekly educational sessions for the trainees.
• · It is overseeing the maintenance of farm vehicles to keep them in a clean and safe condition.
• · Maintains firewood supply.
• · Preparing farm facilities for rental of websites, programs and special events.
• · Participates in annual health and safety inspections; Changes are carried out as proposed or required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Experience with livestock, animal education, including reproduction, childbirth and health care.

• · Carpentry, plumbing, electrical facilities maintenance skills and others.
• · The ability to raise 50 lbs. Performing external tasks related to farm animals; (Feed fodder weighs 80 lbs.
