The researcher will join the newly launched Leverhulme Center for Research on Slavery in War (CRESW), within the College of Security Studies, King’s College of London. In partnership with the Law Laboratory at the University of Nottingham, CRSW will systematically investigate slavery – the two squares throughout history and to the future, using new multidisciplinary methods that extend to social sciences, humanities and data science. By reshaping knowledge, creating innovative tools and early warning systems, CRSW aims to support the global goal of eliminating forced labor, modern slavery and human trafficking.

About the role

The researcher’s assistant will support the research “predicting slavery in the war”. They will support innovative strategy and contemporary conflict analysis, focusing on a wide range of political, military, technological and humanitarian issues. Main responsibilities include: literature reviews, database search operations, and case study reports; Conducting research on new methods and technologies in insight and futures research; Create and maintain data collections in Excel; Helping to design and facilitate the strategic workshops of insight; Contribute to the development of future exchange methods and activities; Create useful materials and/or visually convincing workshops and other research activities; Contribute to other written reports and outputs; Help with updating websites and contributing to communications outputs; Participation actively as a member of the research team.

This is a full -time post (35 hours per week), and a fixed contract will be submitted for a period of three years.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to get the following skills and experience:

Basic standards

• Master’s degree in war studies, conflict and international security studies, or relevant field
• The experience of conducting research on at least one of the armed series other than countries; Civil war and rebellion; Modern slavery, future trends and threats; Emerging techniques
• Experience in conducting literature reviews, database research and case studies
• Experience and maintenance of data sets in Excel (or equivalent)
• Experience and/or/or support expert workshops
• Experience with insight methods and futures contracts (such as scenario design, direction maps, and rear beating)
• Design and/or Update website
• Excellent writing, research and organizational skills

Desired criteria

• The experience of creating useful and/or visually convincing materials for workshops or other activities
• The experience of conducting research on more than one of the following: armed groups other than countries; Civil war and rebellion; Modern slavery, future trends and threats; Emerging techniques
• Attention to the quantitative methods of prediction and direction analysis
• Experience as an active contributor to a research group
• He showed interest in fictional novels and imagination as a source of knowledge and influence
