Summary of the situation

After submitting the reports to the head of the archived processing, the visitor’s archive specialist leads the processing of the Jim Alexander photo collection and creates the group’s descriptive tools, including comprehensive assistance to find Mark. The visitor is also responsible for providing reference services for researchers who use the group, which may include Emory students, faculty, visiting scientists and audience members. The job operator is expected to participate in awareness activities to promote the collection through social media, contributions to the publications of the Rose Library, and other efforts and activation of assembly.

Jim Alexander is an American documentary who spent more than 50 years documenting black culture and human rights movements throughout the United States. In 1977, he became a photographer in the Atlantani Arts Center, and was a photographer in the Clark College from 1984-1990. The collection consists of 108 linear feet of publications, negatives, slides and communication with pictures taken by Jim Alexander from about 1960-2022, including pictures of prominent African American politicians, athletes, activists, authors, and artists.

This is a position for beginners, but it requires some previous experience in arranging and describing archive groups, such as high training, practical training, or part -time role.

A successful candidate will have a knowledge of a history, art, or visual culture of African origin, through (for example) a minor or major in American -African studies, the history of art, or the field, or practical experience with American -African archive groups.

This position is funded by a grant from the Getty Foundation.

Flexible workplace

This situation provides some possibilities for flexible work arrangements; However, the expectation is that the successful candidate will work mainly on the site.

Basic responsibilities and duties

• Arrange and describe the Gim Alexander Tire group, in consultation with the Secretary of the American African Groups and the head of the architectural treatment. (80 %)
• Awareness, public and reference programming, in coordination with the Secretary of American African Groups, to enhance and activate the group by writing blog publications, articles, social media and/or programming opportunities to promote the group and use it to promote and use the collection. (15 %)
• It maintains an updated professional knowledge and skills in the fields related to the task of the initial job, as well as maintaining general knowledge in current trends in higher education, academic libraries, information and educational technology, and participates in library and campus committees as appropriate for service purposes. (5 %)

Qualifications

Required qualifications

• A master’s degree approved in library sciences and information or equivalent education and the relevant library experience.
• 0-3 years experience in arranging and describing archives and manuscripts groups.
• Knowledge of archival standards, current national descriptions and best practices, including the practical knowledge of Mark, EAD, DACS and other archive standard standards.
• The background in American -African history, art or visual culture.

Favorite qualifications

• The experience of working with photography collections, or knowing trends in digitization or processing photography collections.
• Experience in work in an academic library, a public library, a school library, or other cultural heritage settings, or an educational institution.

Salary: $ 63,600. This is a scholarship position with a stable, non -negotiable starting salary.
