Workers – especially black and brown workers – practiced their freedom in organizing and building real democracy – from the polling box to the factory land. As the anti -democratic forces gathered in the Capitol and government broadcasts that are looking to undermine our basic freedoms, as part of the advanced black strategists initiative, jobs with justice gathered on the Clark Atlanta University campus to conduct an open and open conversation about the situation of our democracy. We were honored to welcomes the numbers of US Secretary of Labor Julie Soo alongside scholars, work leaders, organizers, ranks and files for an important and effective event.

The Minister of Representation Sue was in Atlanta to promote the Ministry of Labor “The Principles of Good Jobs” that stems from Executive order signed by President Biden In early September.

“Despite our historical victories so far, hundreds of thousands of workers are still not protected.” Erica Samili, Executive Director of Jobs with Justice said. “Our efforts from each site will not be repeated in the south, not to mention all over the country on its own. The executive matter of good jobs will not be implemented in the south without a special agreement between workers and employers that cannot be excluded by the legislative bodies of the southern state.”

This event coincided with the announcement that the University of Clark Atlanta and jobs with justice are cooperating to create the work center to develop black strategists and research, which will be shelter inside Web du Bois South Cent for Studies in Public Policy.

“We are pleased to share with the University of Clark Atlanta, the Black Strategy Initiative, and the Du Bois Center at the Labor Center,” Sherman Henry saidWho will work in the work center through the advanced black strategy initiative. “As we say often, the south goes, so the nation and the work center go is the next step towards building true democracy here.”

The event event was distinguished by a variety of workers and university leaders, along with workers such as Devushandra Thomas, who helped organize the Blue Bird’s school bus manufacturing facility in Fort Valley, Georgia with United Solid workers.

“Blue Bird was not given an increase in wages until we won our first decade,” Thomas said, But the challenges are far from ending.

“They want us to be grateful despite giving us offspring. We are still fighting despite the first decade. They are still spending captive audience meetings, or they take individuals or sometimes from 10 to 15 of us for 20 minutes at one time to threaten us and tell us lying about our union.

Thomas believes that the US Department of Labor can help if set and impose standards that allow the Union to lead to address the ongoing struggles that blue bird workers still face even after winning their union.

In recent years, the Baiden administration has sponsored two landmarks through Congress. The IRA and the BIL Infrastructure Law (BIL) has made significant investments in our national efforts to revitalize the economy after the epidemic, restore people to work, and make great investments in the clean energy economy.

However, federal investments in a clean energy economy provides an opportunity.

“With the support of federal investments, we can together create an equal and democratic standard throughout the region and throughout the industry,” Smile said. “This guarantees that from Michigan to Mississippi, we build a floor for workers who do not leave any worker. If we are successful, I dare say that we may finally come back to building a multi -ethnic democracy for the dreams of our ancestors. And the lives of black people can be comfortable once.”
