We are now looking for a very qualified researcher and a catalyst with an engineering background or physics (F/M/X) and motivated to push technology towards the market.

Are you enthusiastic about science? Fill out with innovative ideas and capabilities to pay change? Do you see yourself working in an international scientific environment that is fast to compete? If you are driven by the societal influence of science and technology, if you seek an opportunity to play an active role in developing emerging technologies for biology and health care; Next, the CBI chair at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), and its integrated institute for biological and medical photography (IBMI) in Helmhultz Zantrom Moncen (HMGU), Germany, is the ideal environment for you!

In the flow of investigations into the absorption of medically related cell types is one of the critical diagnostic assets. Helmholtz Munich’s cell engineering laboratory with the Leibniz Institute for Solid Status and Materials in Dresden has a new approach to this challenge by using the surface sound wave detection of optical audio signals of cells flowing in microfloidic chips (Göllner, ACS Applyd Mateials & Interfaces, 2025). Such a slide coordination along with cheap and small laser diodes to stimulate audio signals can allow small detection and affordable cells to flow, for example, to discover skin cancer, blood diseases such as malaria and separation of sickle cells and possibly (expand to infrared) also diseases.

The technology born from the European ERC COG company has now received a dedicated funding by the European ERC POC grant to increase its fee on medical questions and explore the market perspective.

The situation requires a rapid adaptation to the current technology (the level of technological preparation TRL 2-3) to test many cases of medical use and implement technological developments (the next generation of chips and diodes by laser). The aim of this is to push technology towards the demonstrator level (TR 5-6) that allows to draw the following steps. Consequently, the work that has always been performed must be required to create data to finance entrepreneurship seeds (GO-BIO and etc.) for further development of technology towards the market. In this sense, we also encourage candidates who will be an interest to pay the project for a longer period in the startup phase.

Your mission:

• Implementing technological developments related to dualities by laser and chips in interacting with the relevant researchers and implementing technology in the current preparation.
• Conducting proof of concept using the types of relevant medicinal cells
• Preparing a leaflet showing the progress of the concept
• Conducting the competitive analysis of in -depth technology, a general view of the landscape in the market, and the location of the activities of collecting subsequent donations and moving to the market.
• Leadership of the acquisition of future financing in close cooperation with the donation collection team

Your profile:

• University degree (MSC or PHD) in any physics, engineering, medicine or biology.
• Experience in optics and remedy signals that allow rapid adaptation to technological needs.
• Hands on Experience at work with experimental settings (including tool control, for example through Matlab)
• The background in the field of medical diagnostic technology is plus.
• Creating business and startup experience in Medtech or Diagnostics is an additional advantage.
• Self -motivation and flexibility to start an ambitious project.
• Player of the enthusiastic team that works well as part of the Entrepreneurial Thinking Team.
• Experience in working in fast environments.
• Great communication skills.
• Performing work fluently for the English language.

Our offer:

The successful applicant will initially have one -year contract. The nature of the project brings with it access to continuity in financing for its own position and financing startup seeds. The salary will be suitable for work and seniority (ENGO Bond TV for example 13). To enhance diversity, we welcome talented applications regardless of sex, cultural background, sexual, race, sexual identity, physical abilities, religion and age. As an equal holder of opportunity and positive actions, TUM explicitly encourages requests from women as well as from all others who will achieve additional diversity dimensions to research and education strategies at the university. The preference will be given to the disabled candidates with the same qualifications.

IBMI in Helmhulz Munich and Biological Photography Chair (CBI) in Munich Technical University (TUM) It is an integrated and multidisciplinary research structure and forms the cornerstone of the ecosystem of biomedical engineering quickly in Munich, Germany; Including Helmholtz Pioneer and the Translating Research Center, which integrates biological engineering with metabolic disorders and oncology, respectively. IBMI scientists develop the methods of photography and sensing from the next generation to measure the properties of live systems that cannot be reached in advance, and therefore, stimulates breakthroughs in biology, medicine and the environment. IBMI includes 11 multidisciplinary laboratories and scientists from more than 25 countries, IBMI offers modern infrastructure for innovative research and an ideal environment to accelerate your career.

Munich is located on the slopes of the Alps, one of the most vital and fun cities in the world, with exceptional quality of life. Great Munich is also home to many universities and international research institutes, creating a truly inspiring intellectual atmosphere.
