🌟 The scaffolding reaches the Parit Bridge before returning the paint

shared

The Tyne Bridge Restoration Project has reached a new stage where SCAFOLDING is installed around Pridge Parabets, with work now to prepare for major repairs and re -paint.

Contractors began building the so -called “Up and Over” on the western road. The structures extend from UnderDeck, to the top of the side, and above the barrier, which leads to access to work on screen panels and bars.

As part of the process, the pedestrian tunnel will be built to allow people to continue using the bridge safely. The West Footway tunnel is expected to open in early 2026, with a similar structure planned for the eastern side later in the program.

Once the barrier and the screenboard are completed, the scaffolding will be removed, which will give way to a safety platform on the surface of the bridge. This work will allow to start the central arc of the bridge.

Counselor Junia Sattian, a member of the Council of Ministers of the Newcastle City Council for Transport and Climate, said that progress was welcome: “It is great to see such a wonderful progress that is made on the Tyne Bridge, where we restore an icon for its previous glory.

With 20 different stages of required scaffolding, this is a complex program designed to keep the bridge open while the restoration continues. “

“The detailed work that has been completed on the bridge structure is impressive. When the program is completed, we will see the bridge looks great, like the new.”

ESH CONSTRUCTION, which provides the scheme on behalf of Newcastle and Gateshead councils, confirmed that more than 2000 nails have been replaced and 420 separate repairs were made during the last stage.

13,000 tons of scaffolding

In total, 13,000 tons of scaffolding components will be used throughout the project – almost six eyes in London.

Gareth Dawson, first project manager at ESH, said: “Given that repair and re -exaggeration in Newcastle scales and the retreating of the beard heads towards the end, we are pleased to move to the next stage that focuses on the barrier and screen paintings.”

More than 350 repair has already been made on the bridge bridge on the Newcastle Quayside channel, where the distinctive green hollybush green paint works are now applied.

The restoration of one million pounds is funded by the UK government, the northeastern joint authority, the Newcastle City Council and the Getsed Council.

The Tyne Bridge bridge will be closed overnight this year to allow the pedestrian tunnel to go forward.
