The source of diamond light is the National Science Facility in the United Kingdom. By accelerating the electrons to the speed of light, Diamond generates great symptoms of light infrared to X -rays that are used for academic and industrial research and development through a set of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering and environmental science.

In Diamond, we currently upgrade the facility, known as Diamond-II. Diamond-II will collect a new machine and new beam lines with a comprehensive series of promotions to optics, detection, sample environments, sample delivery and computing capabilities, which will eventually generate a more wonderful lighting source of higher energy.

About the role
We now have an opportunity for a mechanical design engineer for a two -year fixed contract, to provide support for mechanical engineering design for the technical systems of the diamond facility.

The responsibilities will include:

• Work closely with internal and external scientific and engineering employees to produce mechanical designs for projects.
• Development and application of experience in technologies including very high vacuum systems, stable support structures, accuracy mechanisms, coolers and general design of scientific and factory equipment.
• Production of concept designs, plannings, assembly drawings and detailed manufacturing drawings that use the autocad and Creo program.
• Implementation of accounts and fea as efficiency and supervision.
• Help / buy equipment through commercial suppliers.

About you

• You will have a certificate in mechanical engineering/mechatronic or its equivalent in the relevant discipline.
• Show a powerful background in mechanical engineering with an excellent knowledge of engineering graphics.
• You have a design experience in selecting materials, joining and manufacturing techniques, knowing the advanced CAD level with a manual experience.
• You have the ability to provide creative ideas and solutions.
• Show good communication and personal skills to work effectively with their peers, customers and suppliers.
